Skraidantis Dramblys '98

We were honored recently to have been invited as featured foreign guest performers representing America and the State of Maine in the international children's music festival, "Flying Elephant '98", held in Palanga and Juodkrante, Lithuania on July 30 and 31, 1998. We are also proud to have received an official letter of support for this mission from the Governor of Maine, Angus King, Jr.

The festival management's offer was limited to providing us with all transportation, food and lodging while in their country, as well as a full time translator and introduction to their culture. Airfare was our responsibility. This was an unusal situation for us, however, we felt strongly that it was a worthy endeavor, and agreed with Govenor King that this was an outstanding opportunity to help insure friendship, trust, and cooperation between our two nations for future generations.

Well. we went, and we put on a good old fashioned Rock n' Roll show for them, and they loved it! We were delivering a dose of authentic American culture and art, of which they are starved for. We were on Lithuanian TV, did radio and print interviews, were on the cover of their TV weekly, signed a lot of autographs, posed in a lot of photos, played in an impromptu nightclub show, and jammed with a lot of great Lithuanian musicians. In short, we had fun! Our hosts, Eugenijus Butvydas, Alfonsas Penikas, and Ruta Sabalyte were fantastic, and looked out for us at every turn. We especially liked the act, Pop-Show (POP SOU), a song and dance group of Lithuanian kids led by A. Penikas.
